The Gary Lee Show

I'm Gary Lee, I invented Mandates. Geeks are my friends, I have a team of them that I share all my nerdness with. You'll find me talking alot about films and that's why I started my own show!

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

The second screen adaptation of the award winning novel, obviously with no disrespect to its predecessor, this remake is on a much larger scale.

Although Daniel Craig is in this film it is only right to talk about the main actress, the main subject and the main mesmerising legacy she is leading in this trilogy.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is the first novel of three which I think Rooney Mara is signed up for all three, with The Girl Who Played with Fire next, followed by The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest.

The film begins with a very dark look at Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara) hired to illegally research Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig).

Blomkvist is then hired to investigate the disappearance of a girl from a secluded island in the 1960’s. Meanwhile, Salander is undergoing very strenuous blackmail from her legal guardian and forced to perform sex acts in order to receive finances in which the state have ruled her incompetent of. This carries out into a very unpleasant rape scene.

Salander then teams up with Blomkvist on the island after a confrontation about her earlier illegal research.

The family run island is very suspicious and the initial disappearance of a teenage girl proves to be very unrewarding until they try an piece this peculiar case together.

After the case, Salander and Blomkvist resume their lives. Salander was intending to surprise Blomkvist an hopefully present her feelings towards him, this was not the case and for this leaves the door wide open for the second adaptation of this thrilling trilogy.

Director - David Fincher

Screenplay - Steven Zaillian

Devote yourself to an ideal.

Insomnia

A remake of the original 1998 film.

My last installment of the Christopher Nolan filmography, using the same directional skills as Following, Memento and The Prestige. Using a important scene from the film as its beginning.

Al Pacino and Robin Williams makes this film another enjoyable watch from the Nolan family.

Time is precious. Precious is time.

Time is precious. Precious is time.

Treat people with affection and love, if this is disregarded for any instant then instantly disregard them.

A little quote of my own.

Bronson
You’re not actually thinking about going outside this weekend, we hope.

In 2008, Refn broke through with Bronson, an artful biopic of the prisoner’s eventful and violent life, casting Tom Hardy as the titular character. Once again not sure who that is? You will. He stole last year’s Inception and will flatten the chisel of Christian Bale’s jaw as Bane in next year’s The Dark Knight Rises.
Hardy dominates nearly every scene of Bronson with a testosterone-fueled charisma and sociopathic lack of empathy. His performance is revelatory. Watch his malleable face change from ear-to-ear smile to terror-inducing glare in milliseconds. Hardy is so comfortable with the persona that he must have used Method acting to prepare; for the sake of his friends and loved ones, we hope he didn’t.

Which would be worse, to live as a monster or die as a good man.

William Payne Stewart

I have recently established my love for the game of Golf. But you may think, Tiger Woods is every body’s idol and one to watch. But in my years of growing up Golf was a posh sport, a sport were men wore a particular uniform. This man is a throwback for what was once known as common golfing uniform. His reputation was having the best wardrobe of the modern day game, very unique and a way for him obviously to go back in time when Golf was a contemporary sport.

Would you say Golf was fashionable them days or would you say that was normal attire for that era?

Payne won 3 Majors in his cut-short golfing career with his finest achievements being winning the US Open in 1991 an then regained it 8 years later. At the time of his death he was the 3rd highest earner of all time.

In 1999, four months after his 2nd US Open win. William Payne Stewart was killed in a jet crash on course to his final tournament of the season. To this day, both Ryder Cup teams remembers one of its finest and most patriotic members with their distinct dress codes.

The Director’s Cut

The first of many unique ways of directional quality, by using a flashback or ending to start the film confuses and intrigues the brain.

This film is about memory-loss. He (Guy Pearce) lost his wife and also his memory, so in order to get revenge on the people that did this he must use tattoo’s and photo’s to restore yesterday’s memory.

Memento.

The first of the rebooted Batman franchise, The darkness and realistic view of my favourite superhero or in this perception of the director a super human. The beginning of the greatest trilogy ever made in the hands of the director and writer.

Batman Begins.

The next installment begins with more work of mind illusion’s and mystery. Two magician’s (Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman) battle for title of world’s best illusionist and magician, I think this film made me realise how capable this director was. As the rivalry turns deadly, their quest to be better than each other ends with what I can only describe as one the best ending’s to a film I’ve ever seen.

The Prestige.

Now, the next chapter of the Batman trilogy and even darker than the first. Probably the most notable film for the past 20 years. The pinnacle of this director/writer’s movies so far, When a film has grossed half a billion dollars then you know that something has gone according to plan. For me, this film is about one person. Heath Ledger. How can I love a man who is pure evil? The villain that everyone hates? Ledger is the reason, in this defining moment in his life I feel privileged for this forever lasting image of his performance as The Joker.

The Dark Knight.

The latest installment and most talked about film of 2010, eagerly anticipated and accepted as one of the all time greats. I could say it is my favourite, but what do you class as favourite when you have so many? The first film I seen on IMAX, which gave this masterpiece more reason that also the performances of the actors plus directional quality plus the Oscar winning cinematography from Wally Pfister will lie in our minds and ironically in our dreams for a long time yet. In this film Leonardo Di Caprio assembles a team of skilled ‘dream’ specialists to steal a person’s subconscious during a dream state.

Inception.

So, I’ve named 5 of the 6 of this director’s main stream films. Other films include Insomnia, which he did not write like he did with this 5.

Christopher Nolan is the Director, Writer and Producer of the films above. He has vastly became re-known as one the best directors of our generation.

Nolan will be known forever as turning the comic book and failed Batman attempts into the realistic and revived version of this cult hero. Batman Begins was critically acclaimed for its darkness and more intelligent storyline. This put Nolan on the map.

We then seen The Prestige take similar praise and box-office success, again casting Christian Bale and Michael Caine together. This film went back to familiar directional skills from Memento but with more rewards.

After the success of Batman Begins, the sequel The Dark Knight was released. As I said earlier the gross from this film has surpassed $500 million dollars with some critics now labelling it as ‘The greatest comic-book movie ever made’.

Then came Inception, Probably Nolan’s finest piece of artwork so far. His vision and attempt at something any film-goer had ever seen. His description of ‘A contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind’.

His future productions were reportedly a new ‘Superman’ franchise with fellow writer from the Batman series but Nolan has de-tagged himself from that production to focus mainly an the very anticipated third and final chapter of his restored view of his main superhero. The Dark Knight Rises can only stay in the future for so long…

I know what you’re thinking, you’re thinking what’s this? Still photo’s? But why? Then you see the man with a picnic blanket as a shirt but by that time 1:28 draws closer.

Then you want to hug the world ({})

But what you all know now that you didn’t, I stole it from Amazon’s Kindle advert. So hugs all round again ({})
